Privacy Policy
Inspired by Japan is a small, independent publishing and research practice. This policy describes, plainly and without embellishment, how information is handled across this website and the projects published within it: Yonder, Fish and Sono Mae.
Last updated: 18 August 2026
1. Scope
This policy covers inspiredbyjapan.com and the following Inspired by Japan projects: Yonder, Fish and Sono Mae. Those projects are published at their own addresses and refer back to this page rather than keeping separate policies of their own.
Each project handles information differently, so the sections below describe them one at a time rather than in general terms.
2. Yonder
Yonder is a project of Inspired by Japan. While you are working through a Sprint, your answers stay in your own browser. They are transmitted only when you choose to submit them at the end.
When you submit, your responses are stored in the project's Lovable Cloud database. Inspired by Japan, as the project owner, can access the submitted responses, and they may be read and reviewed by a person.
The email field is optional. You can complete the Sprint without providing an email address. If you do provide one, it is stored together with your submitted responses.
Providing an email address is not treated as newsletter consent. It may be used only to reply to, or follow up on, that submission and the conversation it began.
Submitted responses are not used for analytics or advertising. Submissions are kept until they are deleted on request; there is no automatic expiry and no self-service deletion, so please write to privacy@inspiredbyjapan.com if you would like a submission removed.
3. Fish
Fish requires no account, login, name or email address. What you write is stored only in your own browser, using its local storage.
Your writing is not transmitted to Inspired by Japan, to a database, to an API or to a third party. Inspired by Japan cannot access, read or recover it. Text and Markdown import and PDF export happen locally in your browser.
The application as currently implemented contains no analytics, tracking, telemetry or advertising code. Your writing remains on your device until you clear your browser data or overwrite the draft, and it is not synchronised across devices or browsers.
4. Sono Mae
Sono Mae requires no account or login. You may enter company or project information, product or service information, market information, themes, roles and free-form thinking notes.
Everything you enter is stored only in your own browser, using its local storage. It is not transmitted to Inspired by Japan, to a server, to a database or to an external API, and Inspired by Japan cannot access, read or recover it.
The application as currently implemented contains no analytics, tracking pixel, advertising tag, email collection or file upload. Entries stay in your browser with no automatic expiry. You can remove a locally stored session with the “新しい思考を始める” function, or by clearing the site data in your browser.
5. Analytics on this website
This website uses the privacy-friendly, cookieless measurement built into our hosting platform to understand in aggregate how the Collection is explored: how many people visit, which pages are read, how long a visit lasts, where visitors arrive from, and whether they read on a phone or a larger screen.
No cookies are set for this purpose, no advertising or cross-site profiles are built, nothing collected identifies you personally, and visitors are not followed from one visit to the next. The measurement applies to this website only. Fish and Sono Mae carry no analytics code at all, as described above.
6. Session-level measurement
We use limited, first-party, session-level interaction data to understand how visitors move through and experience Inspired by Japan, and to improve that experience.
During a visit, a randomly generated anonymous session ID is stored in your browser's sessionStorage. For that session, we may collect the pages and routes you view, the sections you reach, how long those sections remain in view, the project entries or links you select, the referring website or host, content-origin information from links shared by Inspired by Japan, your selected language, and whether you are using a mobile or desktop device.
This measurement does not store your IP address for this purpose, use device fingerprinting, track you across websites, use the data for advertising, or attempt to identify you.
We retain this information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.
7. Storage on your device
This website stores your language preference in your browser so that it is remembered between visits. The projects described above keep your drafts and sessions in the same way. That information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
You can remove all of it at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will reset your language preference and delete any locally saved drafts or sessions.
8. Third-party resources
Yonder, Fish and Sono Mae load typefaces from Google Fonts. Making that request involves your browser contacting a third-party server; what you write or enter is never included in those requests.
Parts of this ecosystem are published on external platforms, including newsletter, publishing, scheduling and form services. When you follow a link to one of those platforms, the information it collects is governed by that provider's own privacy policy, not by this one.
9. Hosting and infrastructure
This website and its projects are delivered by hosting and platform providers. As with any website, those providers process ordinary technical request information — such as your IP address and the request itself — in order to serve the pages to you.
This is separate from the product-level handling described above. Where a project is described as keeping content only in your browser, that describes the application itself, not the ordinary technical processing any hosting provider performs.
10. Correspondence
If you write to us, we hold your message and your email address in order to read and reply to it. Correspondence is kept as a record of the conversation rather than added to any list.
11. Requests about your information
If you would like to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have a Yonder submission removed, please write to privacy@inspiredbyjapan.com and describe your request. Please include enough detail for us to identify the submission concerned.
Where a project keeps your content only in your browser, we hold nothing to retrieve or delete; in those cases you remove the content yourself by clearing your browser data or using the function the project provides.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy will be revised as the projects change. Material changes will be reflected in the date shown above, and the current version will always be published on this page.
